What is Narrow Range 7 (NR7)?
Narrow Range 7 (NR7) is a volatility contraction pattern where the current candle has the smallest high-to-low trading range compared to the previous seven candles. It indicates a period of reduced market volatility and consolidation, often followed by a strong price breakout in either the bullish or bearish direction.
How the NR7 Pattern Forms
- The market experiences normal price fluctuations over several candles.
- The latest candle records the narrowest trading range among the last seven candles.
- The shrinking range reflects decreasing volatility and temporary market indecision.
- Buyers and sellers remain in balance while the price consolidates.
- A breakout above the high or below the low of the NR7 candle often signals the next significant price move.

- Monitor the high and low of the NR7 candle for potential breakout levels.
