This strategy helps identify stocks that are fundamentally weakening and technically in a strong bearish trend.
It is designed for traders who want to spot high-probability bearish setups for short-selling or avoiding fundamentally weak companies.
Strategy Description
Scanner Conditions
- Volume: The screener selects stocks where the current tick volume is below the 25-tick average volume, showing reduced participation and lack of buyer interest.
- Weak returns: TSR Profitability Rank is bearish compared to 70% of stocks, signalling poor financial performance relative to peers.
- Technically bearish: Close Price is below the 200-period EMA, confirming that the stock is trading in a long-term downtrend.
- Bearish EMA structure: 50 EMA is below the 200 EMA, establishing a clear bearish alignment (death-cross type structure).
- Strong bearish trend: ADX (14,14) is above 25, indicating strong trend strength supporting continued bearish movement.
- Valuation Insight: TTM Price/Earning Growth is above 1, suggesting overvaluation or slowing earnings relative to price.
- Low profitability: TTM Return on Equity is below 18, indicating weak returns to shareholders and diminishing financial performance.
Additional Considerations
- Risk Management: Always use stop-losses while shorting to protect capital from sudden spikes or reversals.
- Support/Resistance: Pay attention to key support zones. A breakdown below major support often leads to strong downward continuation.
